WEST CHESTER – State Senator Andy Dinniman announced today that two grants have been awarded to support local environmental education projects.

The grants, which come through the Department of Environmental Protection’s Environmental Education Grant Program, are as follows:

  • The Renaissance Academy-Edison Charter School in Phoenixville will receive $3,000 for materials and equipment to study wetlands; and
  • The Stroud Water Research Center will receive $12,856 to hold a five-day teacher workshop that will focus on Environment and Ecology Standards for Agriculture and Society, Integrated Pest Management and Humans and the Environment.

“It is important that our teachers have the tools they need to engage students in environmental research and expand their understanding of science and ecology. After all, we must prepare our young people today to meet the challenges of tomorrow,” Dinniman said.

Since its inception in 1993, the grant program has awarded almost $4 million in funds to support the environmental education efforts of schools, county conservation districts and other nonprofit organizations throughout Pennsylvania.
